|
Larry
began his painting career in Junior College while studying
pre-architecture. There he was introduced to many types of art.
He was so impressed with the watercolor instructor that he took two
years of watercolor classes instead of the required one-term. He went on to the University of Oregon for his formal architectural studies and continued to paint. While there, the fog-laden coastal forests, wild rivers and rural farms inspired more paintings. The rugged mountains and vast sagebrush deserts near his family's home in southwestern Oregon added more paintings to his portfolio. After completing his studies at the U of O, he attended the Los Angeles Art Center of Design for two years studying commercial and architectural illustration. He worked as an illustrator for many years, but always painted in his spare time, concentrating on wildlife scenes. As he gained a reputation across the nation as one of the top wildlife artists in the United States, he decided to paint full time. He traveled across the country displaying in Ducks Unlimited and other art shows and placing his work in numerous art galleries from Seattle to New York. Today he's retired and while still painting, most of his works are of landscapes and rural scenes. Above all, he enjoys teaching others how to improve their techniques to become better artists in his watercolor or acrylic workshops. |
